Mashariki Arts Academy, accredited by the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB), invites applications for our six-month professional short courses in film and creative arts. In partnership with leading international film institutions and tied to the Mashariki African Film Festival.

Programs Offered (6 Months)

Camera

Cinematography & Editing

Camera operation, lighting, composition, visual language, professional editing, and photography fundamentals for powerful visual storytelling.

Sound

Field Sound Recording & Sound Mixing

Location recording, professional microphones, dialogue capture, ambient sound collection, and mixing tailored to narrative storytelling.

Script

Screenwriting & Directing

Story structure, character development, dialogue writing, visual narration, actor direction, scene staging, and bringing scripts to life.

Design

Creative & Art Direction

Production design, graphic elements, set atmosphere, color theory, texture, world-building, and cohesive visual communication for film & media.

Theatre

Online Community Theatre & On-site Film Acting

Six-month hybrid program: acting for stage & screen, playwriting, directing, voice & movement, character analysis, on-camera technique, and collaborative performance. Includes online sessions (≈4 hours/week) + selected in-person residencies and showreel creation.

Certification & Opportunities

  • RTB-approved certificate (co-signed by select partners)
  • Final short films considered for partner festivals

Open to all nationalities (East Africans especially encouraged). Age 18+, secondary education completed, proficient in English.

Tuition covers program only. Students responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, personal expenses, etc.
